You’re invited to a screening of the new narrative science film Humanity Needs Dreamers: A Visit With Marie Curie (45 mins), followed by a short presentation by MIT alumna Francine Wright Bellson (MIT S.M. Physics 1974). The event will be moderated by Anna Frebel and is sponsored by the MIT Kavli Institute for Astrophysics and Space Research and the MIT Department of Physics.
Humanity Needs Dreamers: A Visit With Marie Curie is a science immersion film featuring a scholarly portrayal of the two-time Nobel Prize winning physicist set in Curie’s lab in 1915 Paris. Written and performed by former engineer Susan Marie Frontczak, Humanity Needs Dreamers explores Curie’s early life in Poland through her groundbreaking research in France. The film will screen at 4pm with the filmmaker Jen Myronuk in attendance. The screening will be followed by a short presentation by Wright Bellson about her experiences as a physics graduate student and woman of color at MIT in the 70s. Her presentation includes recollections about fellow classmate and colleague Ronald McNair, their shared interest in promoting STEM education, and Wright Bellson’s memories of the 1986 Challenger launch.
