IAP 2020 — Pragati Pradhan: Astronomy In/from/for Animal Kingdom (1/23/2020)

Thursday January 23, 2020 1:30 pm

1:30-2:00pm

Abstract: Since ancient times, the practice of Astronomy by humans is well known. In this talk, I will present astronomy in/for/from other animals, besides humans. I will discuss case studies of how some animals like dung-beetles use ‘astronomy’ in their everyday life. I will also touch upon the inspiration that astronomers obtain from the structural designs of some animals (eg, lobsters) to build spacecrafts with greater observing efficiency. Finally, I will end my talk with how we humans can use astronomy for the benefit of other animals and foster an environment of mutual co-existence.

No enrollment limit for talk, no advance sign-up required.
