The Self-force Approach To The General Relativistic Two-body Problem (speaker: Nils Warburton, MIT)

Abstract:

In this talk I shall review progress using black hole perturbation theory techniques to understand the two-body problem in a general relativistic context. There is mounting evidence that techniques originally envisioned to be solely applicable to sources for space-based gravitational-wave detectors will find utility across a wide range of mass ratios. I will discuss recent results and future research directions being taken by the self-force community.
