Kat Deck Receives Eric R. Keto Prize For 2014 In Theoretical Astrophysics

Wednesday, May 28, 2014

The senior members of the Institute for Theory & Computation (ITC) recently named Katherine (Kat) Deck (MKI) and Paul Torrey (Harvard CfA) as recipients of the 2014 Eric R. Keto Prize in theoretical astrophysics.

The Eric R. Keto Prize for Graduate Students in Theoretical Astrophysics, endowed with a generous donation by ITC Senior Member Eric Keto, is awarded each year for the best thesis in theoretical astrophysics by a student at the CfA, as selected by the senior members of the ITC.

This thesis prize is for students at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.  Kat was eligible for the prize because she performed her thesis research under the supervision of Matthew Holman at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory.  Kat successfully defended her thesis (“The Orbital Dynamics and Long-Term Stability of Planetary Systems”) on May 12.  In addition to Matthew Holman, MKI faculty members Joshua Winn, Nevin Weinberg, and Anna Frebel served on her thesis committee.

Congratulations, Kat!
