Vincent MacKay (mac-EYE) completed his PhD in Physics in the summer of 2023 at the University of Toronto’s Dunlap Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics. He specializes in instrumentation and data analysis for observational radio cosmology, with a keen interest in 21 cm science at all redshifts. During his PhD, he developed an ultra wideband feed for the Canadian Hydrogen Observatory and Radio-transient Detector. He also addressed many open questions in modern radio observatory design, ranging from dish shape to array layout. His work briefly included a collaboration with the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment (CHIME) to develop a foreground filter based on singular value decompositions.
In September of 2023, he joined the MIT Kavli Institute as a postdoctoral scholar. At MIT, he contributes to the Hydrogen Epoch of Reionization Array (HERA) collaboration, focusing on processing the immense quantity of data and mitigating instrumental systematics.
