We at the MIT Kavli Institute acknowledge that we share responsibility for perpetuating a system that has traditionally marginalized Black scholars in academia.

We strongly condemn the killings of George Floyd, Tony McDade, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and too many other Black people, often at the hands of the police.

We support the peaceful protests happening in the MIT community and around the world.

We affirm the protections of the First Amendment to gather and speak in defense of our fundamental rights.

We pledge to work in solidarity with our Black students and colleagues to identify and counteract institutionalized racism.

We acknowledge this injustice in our society, and resolve to devise and act on specific plans to support Black scholars in physics and astronomy.

We stand with our Black students and colleagues and assert that Black lives matter.
